Updated Norton Internet Security 2008 and System Works, requiring the removal
of both before updating. Now Internal CD R-RW and USB CD R-RW cannot be
found, Code 41. Some external USB harddrives cannot be found. Installed a
different Internal CD R-RW, same results. CD R-RW will run in DOS during
start up. CMOS and Bios settings appear okay.

"You can no longer access the CD drive or the DVD drive, or you receive an
error message" (Error codes: 19, 31, 32, 39 or 41)

If no joy then I would suggest un-stalling the driver, removing the cable
from the CD-Rom and CDRW, and then reboot Windows.
Shut down Windows, turn off the PC and re-connect the cable to the CD-Rom
and CD-RW.

Now Power up and let Windows re-discover the devices and install the
drivers.
