CD-R reads ok.But when I try to burn something it seems to be doing
something... then says that it's failed. The CD-R is then useless. Thought it
was the cheap CD's, but it happens with everything. Can anyone help? Please

you've posted your email address on Usenet, you've increased your

Your CD-RW drive has probably died. Here are a few things to try:

1. With the computer off and unplugged, reseat the cable going from the
drive to the motherboard and also the power supply connector.

2. Make sure the drive isn't using PIO mode instead of DMA. Here is a

3. If the above steps don't help, replace the drive. A new CD-RW drive
is very inexpensive.

I have a Toshiba laptop. Didn't use for a few months and when I did and
tried to use the CD-reader, it says it is not there. I have tried everything
and the TEPD or whatever that is always comes back as corrupted and D: is not
available. You mentioned they are inexpensive to replace, like $20 or what
and how do I do that? Thanks for any suggestions

Are you the original poster? If not, make a new post and include all
pertinent details about your computer and what "tried everything"
means. Replacing laptop components is not equivalent to replacing
desktop components.
