CD-R Drive Phantom Disc

This is very odd.
My CD-R drive is reading a disc in it - IE, will let
me 'explore' even when it is empty. I have rebooted to
clear any temporary memory that may be confusing the
issue. I _think_ that it is reading as if the last CD
that was in the drive is still there. IE- the rollover
pop-up come up with 583m used 0 free, then lets me
explore- but nothing is in there, of course. This is an
issue instead of an oddity, because it won't let me burn
CDs! When I go to burn, instead of the default date
title it comes up as 'Morrowind' (the last game I had in
there) and when I go to burn, it tells me the cd in the
drive is full or unwritable- even when it is open, or
with no disc at all in the drive. Any help would be
appreciated. I have uninstalled and re-aquired the
drive, via computer management and re-boot, and am using
generic windows xp adapti drivers, which, up to recently,
worked fine.
Thanks in advance.
