CD Player drivers XP

I have recently upgraded from Windows 98 to Xp. Both the
CD drives on my computer failed to be recognized. Using
device manager I updated the drivers and they showed up
under my computer but everytime I log off windows or
reboot they disappear! Any help would be appreciated.
