Can anybody help in creating a fake cd on the hard disk to
run software that always requests a disk in cd drive?

Using Windows Xp Home addition.

Make an iso image with your CD burning software (eg NERO). Then use this to mount it as a virtual CD

Another program that works well is called Alcohol 120%. I have this program
and it works very well.

I use Virtual CD from www.virtualcd-online.com It also does DVDs.
Fairly easy to use, and I can run multiple programs, such as, MS
Encarta, and Enc. Britannica (DVD, 4+GB) while listening to music using
the actual CD drive.
