I have a combi RW/16/10/DVD drive that came installed
with my system. Recently it stopped working and after
trouble shooting I came to the conclusion that it had
failed, so I purchased a new one. It also will not run.
Upon insertion of ANY disk the led light flickers and
then nothing. Thru hp support I ended up doing a
destructive full recovery and still either drive will not
work. Everywhere I check the drive and drivers are
recoginzed and working and up to date. The drive is not
recognizing ANY files on ANY disk and not running. This
has also just happened on my second computer, which leads
me to believe it's an XP problem. If anyone can help
with suggestions or remedies, I would appreciate it.

although I was able to burn both a DVD-RW and a CDR
before it stopped working.
I used Pinnacle Studio 8 to burn the DVD-RW and NTI DVD
maker to burn the CD, then did a full erase of the DVD-RW
using NTI, then nothing everything stopped working.
The light turns off on the burner but I get a message
saying the disk is unknown when trying to burn either a
DVD-RW or CDR.
If I put a disk with software on it in the drive the
light stays orange for a lengthy period of time then
turns off but won't read anything in the drive.

Try putting any valid data disc in the drive and reboot
your system and see if it can read the disc then.
