CD / DVD title not displayed for inserted CD or DVD

I have a Samsung NC10 running XP SP3. Attached to it I have a Buffalo DVDRW
external bus powered writer.

My problem is that any disc I insert is readable i.e. double clicking on the
DVD-RAM Drive icon allows me to access the disc, but the disc title is not
displayed. It seems this way for all discs that insert, whether I've burned
them or not.

Any help?
