CD/DVD-ROM problems with device driver in W2k

After installation of a DVD-ROM , The found new hardware pop-up is
followed by an Device Error.
"Windows could not load the installer for CD-ROM. Contact your hardware
vendor for assistance"
The next screen displays The Welcome to found new hardware wizard , at
this point I go thru the install routine with no results. Now my CDRW
pops up with the same message. Manufacturer's comment is that W2k does
not require a driver for their product.(MSI and TDK). Both of these
drive are working but with limited capabilities...
since the system installs a generic driver....Unable to set DMA via
properties tab, etc.

Thanks in advance for any help!
Gene
