My CD/DVD Rom on my old Toshiba Portege 7140CT (laptop
wiht docking station) doesn't work. the CD spins for a few
seconds, then. Windows XP cna't read any CDs. I get al
kinds of error messages when I manually try to run CDs,
but generaly it says it can't find an entry point or sodme
other error (these are manufacturer (norton Antivirus, Win
XP Install Disk) disks, not ones that have been burned by
users. The biggest problem is that I have to install
Windows XP Home on another hard drive for the laptop, and
no matter how I do it, how I fomrat/partition the hard
drive, the CD drive can't read the XP install disk. It
says CDBoot error: can't find NTLDR, or it just spins. I
have tried the Windows XP install floppy disks, and then
when it comes time to run from the cd, it just spins for a
few seoncd, then nothing. Is there some kind of diagnostic
I can run to see if the drive can be fixed or not? The
Toshiba web site says there is no driver for this, but
windows instal a generic driver for it.
