Hi, just like it says above. I open windows explorer and i can see the drive
as letter d:\ with no issues. You can even double click on the drive in
explorer and it opens but the contents of any cd you open is blank. When i
try cd's that used to autorun, they also do not autorun and you cannot view
the contents of any cd you put in. Any ideas? Thanks

Try a Dvd/Cd Drive Lense Cleaner. I use one that is a CD with two
small brushes opposite each other and a drop of
lense cleaner on each brush. Worked great on my DVD Player.

Yes, we tried the lens cleaner before but no result. The cd / dvd you put in
doesn't autorun and you can also not explore the contents of any disc. Seems
like a windows issue more than a Hardware issue to me. Anything other ideas
to try?

Does the disc even spin up when you put it in? You should see a small LED
activity indictor light in most cases, but you should also be able to hear
it spin up shortly after you insert it, regardless of what's on the disc.

Does the name of the disc appear in the Folders column of Explorer?

Go to Start>Run and run CMD. At the prompt, run
DIR D:

Do you get a list of files and folders or do you get an error or what?

Contrary to your opinion, I'm 99% certain that the problem IS hardware.

Hi Gary,

Sorry, yes the cd /dvd led activity light does light up and the disc does
spin up like normal. I did not try the cmd run trick from your message but i
will try that next and report what i find. I think that would possibly not
work as well because I've seen where i open windows explorer and browse to
the cd drive and when you double click the drive, nothing appears. I will
let you guys know what i find on the next update.

Thanks
