Hi,
I posted once on 7/14 regarding my problem and I
haven't found a solution yet(below is my first post, in
which I forgot to mention that the Floppy Disc does the
same thing).
I have tried all the suggestions so far, including
Microsoft's fix, and none of them worked for me. Any
suggestions would be appreciated. Is there a way that I
can re-install the orginal Win2k with none of the disc
drives working?

Hi,
I just upgraded the Win2k to Win2k SP4 on my Dell PC thru
Micrsoft web update, but I made a big mistake by choosing
no-backup option. Now both the CD-ROM (Hitachi GD5000) and
CDRW(TDK CDRW241040)drives don't work. They can play audio
CDs, they appear on the drives' list, but they can't read
any other CDs -data, video. When clicking on "D" drive,
the drive sounds spinning, and then an error message
says: "The disc in drive D is not formetted, do you want
to format it now?". Click "yes", it says "The disc in
drive D can not be formatted", end of story.
I have tried to uninstal/reinstal drivers w/o success. I
can't remove the SP4 since no backup was done. Any
suggestion would be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
David
