Recently, I have had problems with my laptop's CD and DVD player. Everytime I
insert a disk into the player, the player won't read the disk and nothing
happens. I'm not sure what the problem is but I need a controller, because
the DVD is not reading my stuff. But I'm not able to find one. I was able to
install one but when I did, it said something about a code 39. Would anyone
know what that is?

Thanks for the help,
Jorge

You need to determine if you have a software (driver) problem or a hardware
problem. Try putting a bootable CD or DVD (like your Vista disk) in the
drive, shutdown the laptop and see if it successfully boots from the CD. If
it boots from the CD then you are reasonably sure the optical drive is OK.
If it doesn't boot from the CD (and you are positive the CD is bootable and
you pressed "...any key to boot from the CD") then the optical drive may be
faulty...or it needs cleaning.

By "controller" do you mean "driver"? You'll need to provide more
information than just "...something about a code 39."

Try the above suggestion and post back.

I had exactly the same problem, googled for some time and discovered that we
aren't the only ones with this problem.
I had installed a Webcam which damaged the Drivers of my CD/DVD so it gave
me Code 39.
The best sollution:
Systemrecovery (is it called like that in english? anyway, in dutch it's
Systeemherstel)
