cd/dvd drives will not autoplay

please help--
i have a dell pc and both cd/ dvd drive shave stopped autoplaying.
i have downloaded latest drivers and checkesd that they are set to
autoplay ---
i am bothered that if i have a pc problem, my pc will not boot from the
windows disk .

any advice ??

If you have a third-party soundcard (like Creative, ect...), then the program
for CD access must not be starting. Click start, run, then type
'services.msc', hit enter, and you should see a screen showing info on all
your running services. Look for anything that relates to CD's or CD access.
If that service isn't running, set it's startup type to 'Automatic'
(right-click, properties,blahblahblah...) Then start the service and see if
that helps.
