CD/DVD Drive Not Seen by Windows

I have a new notebook computer w/ Windows MCE on it. I repartitioned and
reinstalled MCE when I got it. I have all of the Windows Updates. I'm not
sure when it happened, but at some point after the install, Windows decided
it knows nothing of the CD/DVD drive. It doesn't show up in Explorer or in
Device Manager. The drive is recognized in the BIOS, and I have confirmed
that it works just fine. (I can boot from the Windows setup disc just fine;
I'd just rather not have to reinstall if I don't need to.)

I followed the instructions here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b/320553/en-us
but that appears to be just if it is lost from Explorer but is still
recognized in Device Manager. And yes, I've scanned for updated hardware
countless times now.

Anybody have any ideas on this? I'm really at a loss...

Thanks in advance for any help!

If the laptop is new, I suggest you contact the OEM's Tech support and ask
them how to restore your recovery partitions, that may have inadvertently
been destroyed when you repartitioned your HDD..
Cheers

The laptop is new, but there are no recovery partitions... The drive was
wiped and followed with a fresh install of MCE. (I have the disc, and *can*
do another install if need be, I was just hoping that there might be a way to
tell Windows to remember that there's a DVD drive there w/o going through a
reinstall.)

It just seems like there was a software issue somewhere that caused Windows
to lose/ignore the drive, and there should be some sort of software fix to
restore it. Hrm...

Thanks again...

Have you tried this..?
What is the response your getting from customer service..? Still under
warranty..?
What is the Make and model of the laptop..?
The OEM's restore disk should restore it to it's original condition the OS
apps, everything, etc..
Cheers
