CD Drives Not Accessible

Windows XP Home SP2 with current antivirus and spyware scans.
I have two cd drives that came with the computer. They have worked without
any problems for 3 years. My wife opened her desktop that she had not used
for months to install a program from cd. The firewall and Microsoft
antispyware gave her options to block processes or applications. I believe
she blocked two. Antispyware will not open to show blocked processes. Both
cd drives show this message: E:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function. I
disabled both the sygate firewall and antispyware, and rebooted with no
change. I was able to open both cd drives and view the cds in safe mode. I
uninstalled the firewall and antispyware with no change. I removed the two
cd drives and Windows reinstalled them. The drivers are current. Device
manager shows not conflicts or problems. The drives will not recognize any
type of cd media unless in safe mode. I threw in a system restore against my
better judgement when none of the above worked.

Your suggestion worked. The patch for Easy Creator 5 had been installed
quite a while ago and was working. I don't know what happened to EC 5, but
it was the cause of the problem. I could not download the patch again, so I
deleted the program. After rebooting, both of the CD drives are working.
Thanks for your expertise, as I never would have thought of a problem that
was supposedly fixed.
