cd drives no longer recognized

have dual boot, xp, linux. Drives recognized on linux.
Tried uninstall reinstall, ge message that 'windoww cannot
load the drivers. Corrupted or missing., Code 39.
Crivers, cdrom.sys, are in system32 and are OK. Tried sys
restore, no good.
