CD drive runs continuously

My E (CD) drive light/motor runs continuously (whether or
not there is media in the drive). The CD drive does not
appear as part of My Computer, nor can it be located by
Adding/Removing Hardware. Even Disc Detector fails to
notice it. Loose connection?
