matt;
There are a few ways. I assume you have tried the obvious, pushed the
button on the drive's front?
Try this: Open my Computer/right click your drive/click eject.
Or try this: Straighten a paper clip, push the straight end into the
little (I mean small) hole on the front of the CD drive, there will be a bit
of resistance. Keep your hand out of the way. You might consider doing
this one with the computer turned OFF.
Hope this helps. Let us know.

One idea:

Reboot the machine. Before it boots into Windows, press the eject button.
(If it opens, remove the disk quickly. The PC may close the tray again by
itself when Windows starts.)

Another idea:

Does your CD drive have an emergency ejection hole?

It allows you to manually open the tray (I hope that you don't have a
slot-loading system.) A largish paper clip, straightened, is usually about
the right size.

I haven't faced your problem myself, but I hope that one of the above will
free things up for you.

Good luck.

Some of the writing programs will lock the drive so you don't eject it at
the wrong time. It will probably release if you restart the computer, but it
would be a better bet to read up on the writing software that you have and
see what you're supposed to do.
