CD drive hiccup?

I downloaded a PCLinuxOS 2007 ISO image to my desktop. Used Hashcalc to do
the md5 checksum to make sure the download was not corrupted which it wasn't.
I used Isorecorder to burn the image to cd to make a live cd. This worked
fine just like it did when i did the same procedure earlier in the day to
Open Suse 10.3. I used OpenSuse fLive cd for about an hour and everything
went fine. PcLinux was much slower than OpenSuse to get going. Finally after
30 minutes or so i was at the desktop after logging in as Guest. I
immediately went to Suse's Start button(or equivalent to Windows) to
shutdown. But the button didn't work and i was basically stuck there. So the
only way out was to shut my laptop off by holding the power button down until
the computer shut off.

After rebooting my Sony WindowsXP sp2
laptop i found that my cd drive wont burn anymore. This was a live cd and i
wasn't installing anything
why would it mess up my cd drive? And can anybody help me get it fixed.
