I recently uninstalled Norton Utilities and installed
CA's EZARMOR (firewall and antivirus). Since the change I
cannot use either the DVD drive or the CDROM drive.
Neither drive appears under My Computer.
SYSTEM RESTORE has not helped.
I uninstalled and re-installed EZ-Armor but this made no
difference. I ran a complete virus scan before and after
making the software changes and did not pick up a problem.
When the PC is rebooted there are two beeps, a pause and
then another beep.
Boot messages:-
Autodetecting PRIMASTER IDE Hard Disk
Autodetecting PRISLAVE not detected
Autodetecting SECMASTER ATAPI CDROM
Autodetecting SECSLAVE not detected
SECMASTER Drive ATAPI incompatible
EVENT LOG shows:-
Error 2003/09/22 04:13:31 PM PlugPlayManager
None 12 N/A CHRISTINE
Error 2003/09/22 04:13:31 PM PlugPlayManager
None 12 N/A CHRISTINE
SYSTEM display device manager shows no errors.
All devices working correctly:-
IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers
Intel(r ) 82801BA Bus Master IDE Controller
Primary IDE Channel
Secondary IDE Channel
I removed the devices and rebooted allowing the system to
find them again. This did not help.
I have Microsoft Windows XP Home edition version 2002
Service Pack 1.
Intel(R) Pentium (R) 4 CPU
CPU Speed 1700 MHz
Cache size 256KB
Memory Size 768MB
Bios version 8IDMNF V1.0M
BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. 1.0K,
2001/11/08
I could not find an explanation for the two short beeps /
pause/ third short beep sequence but looking at the AMI
BIOS codes for 2 or 3 beeps suggested memory problems. I
reseated the memory cards but this made no difference.
Any suggestions would be appreciated
Many thanks
Christine
