If I leave my system on for more than 5 hours, the cdrom
drive thinks everything inserted is a Media player cd. If
I shutdown and turn off for 10-20 sec, then reboot, the
drive is ok. I've had this problem in vatying degrees on 2
different mobo. I just bought a new MSI 6378 mobo, w
integrated audio, video, 512 Mb ddr, Athlon xp 2000+.

Why does XP seem to loose it's drive characteristics?

I found that it was the mobo drivers. After I upgraded the driver for
the ide controller from MSI website it cured the problem
