HI.
My daughters cd drive went missing, I looked in device manager and it
says registry entry for the cd is incomplete or missing. So I did what I
would do with 98, uninstall it, reboot, and let windows find it again. It
just re-booted, didn't find any new hardware, device manager same as before.

I tried a system restore to a week ago, but it said cannot restore because
nothing has changed on the pc. Help !

Thanks.

Maybe it is defective - try it in a different PC.

Try the fix in section #8 here.

Nothing shows on boot up. This is my first dealings with xp, it just shows
a blank screen until it gets to the users screen, is this normal?

Consult your motherboard manual - sounds like the viewing the POST during
startup has been disabled. If you don't have a manual look online using
your model #. If you don't know your motherboard number, download Belarc
Advisor or Everest (Lavalys?). Search this newsgroup using those keywords
and you will find the website. Google will work as well. These two
software's (okay bad English) will give you all kinds of info about your PC.
