CD Disk Freezes Windows XP

CD works fine if CD in Player is a data CD (EG. Program)
but if a blank CD or an audio CD inserted the system
freezes Or if rebooted with the blank or audio CD still
in the drive. Have replaced the CD and the problem
persits. Connected as Master thru Promise Controller card.
