I have been having lots of problems with my computer lately. I have a
problem with my CPU, and unfortunately I can't afford to take it in and have
it fixed. Most of the time, the problem happens when I shut the computer
down it simply won't come back on. All I will here is a voice telling me
that I have a problem with my CPU. Well, I cleaned the computer and kind of
wiggled the wires a little bit and got it to turn back on.

However, now neither one of my CD drives works. I have tried everything and
nothing has worked. I mean everything. Deleting the drivers, updating the
drivers, etc. My device manager says both drives are working, but when I go
to itunes, it says that it's not reading either drive.

PLEASE HELP!!!

Windows XP does not have a voice that tells you that you have a problem with
your CPU.

Sandra

Your problems are not directly related to Windows XP.. you appear to have
basic hardware problems, in which case you should pay a visit to, or call,
the computer vendor as soon as funds will allow..

Exactly my point: You do not have a Windows XP problem.

In future, when posting to a newsgroup with a new question please start a
new thread. 'Hijacking' someone else's thread (that's what it's known as)
only makes it more difficult for your peers to offer help.

Sandra
CPU is the Central Processing Unit..........the chip that makes it all
work. When you say you wiggled the wires I am thinking fan,All the other
"wires" inside should be pretty solidly attached.Take a look inside your
case while the system is running and see if the little fan on top of the
heatsink which is on top of the CPU is running..........If it is not you
have an overheat problem and need to shut down before you burn the chip
out.The good part is that these fans are fairly easy to replace....usually 4
screw one at each corner...very carefully. The you take that fan down to a
computer store and purchase one just like it in size and airflow and install
it.
While the system is shut down check all connections by lightly pushing them
back into their sockets carefully. You might have dislodged a power line to
the CD drives or the IDE cable itself which connects to the motherboard.

It's so much easier to suggest solutions when you don't know too much about
the problem
