I have been a Nero user for some years and am now trying Nero 7 which is
Vista compatible. Although it seems to work OK it does seem to be turning
into 'bloatware', very 'arty-farty' and overly complex.

Can anybody recommend alternative basic CD/DVD burning compilation/copying
software which is fully Vista compatible?

Hi Malcolm

It really depends upon what you require the CD/DVD Burning software to do.

Nero like many packages has become bloated over the years, however you can
select which parts you wish to install.

Personally I use Roxio Record Now 9, again many bits that we do not
personally need, so we select the relevant portions for our requirements as
we manly require Data, CD/DVD Music and ISO. Video and DVD Shows are handled
by Photodex Proshow Producer 3.

Both of these are fully vista compliant and we have had no problems with
them at all. The earlier version of Roxio Record Now e.g version 8, would
not work fully with Vista.

I hope this helps.

Best Regards

Stuart

Do a Google for Nero Lite, it's Nero without all the fluff

How about MS Vista. It is Vista compatable, unlike Nero.

I'm currently using Ashampoo's Burning Studio, and quite like it, but
it's payware. The only freeware I know of that works with Vista is
ImgBurn. Burning Studio is simpler to use for basic compilation and
copying of varied file types, but ImgBurn is my favorite alternative for
burning images.

Between the built-in optical disc data writing capabilities of Vista and Alex
Feinman's Iso Recorder (http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm)
I'm able to handle all of the CD and DVD burning I need to do under Vista.
The Vista built-in stuff is kind of flakey, but I'm getting so I enjoy that
-- in a perverse way. But Feinman's Iso Recorder is a spot-on minimalist
masterpiece.

Personally I'm a fan of Total Commander http://www.ghisler.com/ . One of
it's plugin is CD/DVD Burnin Plugin http://www.tiasoft.de/tcburner/ ,
which is very small and very useful. I don't need Nero anymore.
