CD Burner not working on 2 machines!!!

I have 2 machines and both have CD burners that aren't
working. I have no idea what I have done. Tried
updating drivers etc, to no avail. When trying to copy
to temp folder it either hangs or gives error
message "Windows encountered a problem trying to copy
this file, what do you want to do? retry or cancel."
