Greetings. Recently my CD burner has started malfunctioning. It just
stops working completely, I can't even open it. It still appears in
explorer, but I can't use it unless I re-boot the machine, then I can
use it for a time, but within an hour it stops working again. I've
tried swapping the IDE cable and power cable, same results. Any help
here would be appreciated, thanks.

That was happening to my computer too when I was
using Easy CD Creator. I switched to Nero and no
more problems
