Whenever I try to burn a CD on my Memorex CD/DVD burner, it fails the first
time every time. If I then execute the command again without doing anything
different, it works every time. Any suggestions on how to make this work
the 1st time?

Are you using the default XP burning system?

What CD burning application is being used? How is it
configured, e.g., test and burn or just burn?

I've tried it two ways. When I drag a file from the Windows Explorer to my
F drive (CD/DVD burner) and from Windows Media Player if I'm trying to burn
an MP3. Both ways fail on the first attempt. 2nd attempt always works.

You may need to update your burning software..?
A good read on burning CD's in XP..
http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php
Regarding the Highmat relationship with XP..
http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/p...SupportPR.mspx
Update the CD Wiz here..
http://www.highmat.com/download/
If you have a third party DVD/CD burning app installed you may need to
disable the XP inbuilt CD burner, your call..
The link below should show you how to disable the CD Wiz, or not..
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;826510
More specific info on your drives make and model#, or burning app(s) as
previously requested might help others to help you..
Hope this can help..
