After installing win2K on laptop and desktop my cd/dvd
players are only reconized with media if and only if I
boot the computers with cd or dvd disk in the drives. all
works fine after that( insert different media ect.) If I
boot without media in drives the drive is reported and all
checks out OK. When I insert media and click on drive
letter the "Insert Disk window Pops up" (please insert a
disk into drive D) where D is my cd/dvd on both units.

I just started having the same problem with Win2k, I have
a CDR on a SCSI bus and an IDE/ATAPI CD drive that I can
not read unless I boot with media in the drives. Let me
know if you find a fix.

I installed XP pro and problem is gone. Good Luck. I have
alot of computer wizes in my company and no one could help
