CD & DVD drives not accessible after installing Win 2000 Pro

After installing Win 200 PRO i receive d:\is not
accessible...incorrect function. the CD r/rw drive will
recognize my HP recovery disk that came with the PC
(4+years ago)When I select a program to reinstall it times
out. It may have something to do with Easy creater 3.5c.
But it did not get loaded when I up graded. I've tried an
new driver for the DVD..no help. Any ideas??
