Have a similar problem to other users. Runnins XP Pro -
installed a visioneer 7100 usb scanner. all software
worked and all drives worked fine. rebooted...all worked
fine. powered down machine and when powered up, the cd
and dvd readers were there (in explorer, etc.), but they
would not read any type of disc or even acknowledge that
cd was inserted.
Reverted xp to prior point and re-booted. drives still
visible and now would recognize any cd inserted (software,
music, etc.)
Visioneer site is useless, although documentation appears
to indicate that XP is supported, though the model is no
longer current.
Does anyone know if MS has come up with a fix for the
disappearing CD/DVD drives problem? I did not get any
error...no code 19, etc.
