When one runs the latest version of Ccleaner, the information in WD
concerning the date and time of the last scan is deleted (no info available).
Is this normal? Did not occur with previous versions of Ccleaner.

you are right, so in ccleaner dont't mark the WD for the moment.
I send them a mail because the are cleaning the wrong things.
I shall report back in the announcement group.

Ccleaner also deletes uninstall directories leading to an inability to
uninstall IE7 or any security patch or update that is normally uninstallable
for that matter. Personally I recommend people keep right away from that
product unless and until they understand the implications of what they are
doing.

Well..... I can really recommend CCleaner, MS disc cleaning IS a joke.
We live in a world WITH 3rd parties and it must be so.

Hotfix removals IS a non default Advanced setting within CCleaner.

If a user anyway cannot keep his clicks from this advanced setting

Nema problema..... The junk in every PC IS a problem but MS will
never touch it for total removal including index.dat and
"antiphising".dat.

Hi,

IE7 just did a uninstall and a install without any problems true
Software Uninstall/Install Microsoft parts!
CCleaner here runs everyday here and use the Regleaner also much.
Install a lot of programs and Uninstall them again, never problems after
cleaning with Ccleaner!!!

Hi Tom

It was problem with earlier IE7 Betas and users which
turned on "advanced" cleanings.

But as you saw with my AndyM URL he has solved it, I have helped
users with Andys removal procedure (swedish forums).

Nevertheless MS have also changed this stupid placemant för IE7
uninstall with no need for "Show updates"..... Really stupid
programming.

Every user should of course then have both Firefox and IE7 installed

Why would I want to install another browser, that simply increases my
possibility of having a vulnerability? Most who've done this simply have a
second browser they haven't kept updated.

There's nothing useful about adding a browser to 'increase' security, this
is simply a cop out by those who don't know how to configure IE. And with IE
7, there is even less purpose with the improved protection.

The main thing most need to do is remove the P2P software from their PC and
stay away from the adult web sites. A quick skim of any popular malware
removal site shows these are the top issues. Those who add browsers and
things like Sun Java simply find themselves with more vulnerabilities and
more updates to download, which is the other key issue ignored by many of
these same people.

The key to security is to simplify, complexity adds confusion and
vulnerability.

To both use Firefox AND IE7 open eyes for thinking users....

This is not about vulnerabilitys, it´s about to find out
that it´s world outside IE.

I would say that the most important thing for users to
find out is software from other companys then MS.
Many european communitys/citys now really investigate
to use Open Office, to use Firefox and so on...

Ballmer and US pension funds maybe doesn´t like this but
this is important.....

I have also tested Vista Beta2 and I´m even more sure about this
after testing Vista.... and Office 2007....

And the key for security is "thinking users".......!
