What is causing corrupted files?

I'm using Win XP Pro. I bought a Western Digital HD 3-4 months ago
and after some usage, I found that quite a bit of the files stored on
that drive is corrupted. I thought it's a problem with the drive so I
sent it back to WD. Now, with the new one, I'm starting to experience
the corrupted files again. In particular, some mp3's would skip
around within a song. I'm sure the mp3's were fine before but somehow
it got corrupted. Does anyone have any idea as to what is causing
this?

Thanks,

Patrick

But this only applies to people who moved the HD from one IDE
controller to another? It's always been on the same computer...
