Hi.

I have a 2 week old install of XP pro on a high spec PC. I've
reinstalled Crysis, patched it and for the first time since I bought
it, i can actually play it properly. Mostly.

Every now and then during the game I get a windown event sound play,
"Device disconnect", a pause of 1 - 2 seconds during which the mouse
is dead, then the "Device connect" sound plays and a moment later it
returns to normal. My question is, what device?

During normal usage I have not had this happen. I have speakers on so
I could hear it should it happen. It doesn't.

I guess XP will put this in a log somewhere. Can anyone advise me
where to find this log, and maybe point me to an explanatory website?
This isn't a known Crysis bug AFAIK.

Thanks.

What background processes do you leave running when you load Crysis?
Odd for me was leaving Outlook running would cause hiccups when playing
several games.

Device disconnect sound events are caused by USB devices. Tried
unplugging them all during gameplay?

I was wrong about it not happening at other times. Last night while
surfing websites, it happened several times.

Whatever windows has loaded. Plus Zone alarm, NOD 32 AV, SB Xfi Audio
panel and the Nvidea settings panel are in the tray.

The onRazer ly USB device I have is my mouse. It's a Copperhead gaming
mouse and it's worked OK so far as I can tell. I have other stuff but
it's not yet had the drivers installed and are disconected. My printer
is connected to my router so it's available to anyone who uses our
wireless network, not to the PC.

I guess an uninstall and re-install with the latest mouse drivers is
the next stop. Thanks.

Note the precise time on your computer when that happens and look in the
Event Viewer under applications that occurred at that time. You should
be able to see what stops and restarts there.
Once that's known, you can proceed further. I'd also recheck all the
game settings you have and what loads at boot time. AutoRuns might help
with that.
