Caught Between SP1 and SP2

I currently run SP1 on my Dell Dimension 8300 desktop. When SP2 was
first released, I installed it. But then I started getting "blue screen
of death" errors, at a rate of one or two per hour. I was never able to
diagnose the cause, and so I was forced to uninstall SP2 and go back to
SP1--and it's worked OK ever since.

Now Microsoft has announced that support for SP1 will end after October
10. So now I'm between a rock and a hard place: Unless SP2 has itself
been patched or upgraded since it was released, if I install it again
I'm sure I'll have the same "blue screen of death" problems as before.

Any suggestions?

Hi Steven L.,

Reapply the Service Pack 2 patch and then update all possible drivers
for your system and download all hotfixes for Service Pack 2.

But, take a moment to call Dell and ask about updated Drivers for your
computer.

sp2 should not cause you any problems. Get with Dell, because in my opinion
SP2 is very important to a functional and secure operating system.

Just in case, your concerns are not addressed, you can manually download SP2
and copy it to a cd....
