"Categories" of tasks in columnar format, going wide; how can I?

So, I finally, in an "aha" moment realize that I see/percieve all my
subject/tasks in columnar format, going wide across the page. MS Outlook's
Task List is designed/defaulted to view each subject line in a linear format.
I like mine in a columnar format. It seems that this is possible, although
I do not know how to get there from here, without a huge learning/time curve.
So, if you can save me time, I would be ecstatic. I have been beating my
head against a wall for years and this tiny little detail dawned on me this
morning, 10-23-07. Thanks much, Beth.

Do you have something to compare your ideal view to -- i.e. another product
or how you want to use the Tasks list? I am not getting a clear picture of
what you're trying to do.
