Will Catalyst 6.5 work with MMC 9.8?

I installed MMC 9.13 a couple of months ago but removed it because of the TV
on demand issue. I'm using Catalyst 6.1 now but I wonder if there is any
advantage to updating to Catalyst 6.5 and will it work with MMC 9.8. Thanks.

The driver (Catalyst) and software (MMC) must match each other, or otherwise
you will have errors. I've tried that several times.

This is completely wrong. Many of us are using different combinations.

the Catalyst driver and MMC ****DO NOT**** have to match.

They ***DO HAVE TOO MATCH***

ATI Tech support warns users that if you mix drivers and software versions
your hardware may malfuction. Thats why ATI gives release notes to follow to
use, to install the drivers and software correctly as the release notes say.

I have had 13 ATI All-In-Wonder video cards. I spent countless hours working
with different combos of driver and software versions, it's simple "IT DOES
NOT WORK THAT WAY". Thats why users are having countless problems because
they don't follow the release notes.

"NoNoBadDog!" is so wrong about uesrs don't have to match drivers and
software. He simply doesn't know what hes talking about.

I have owned and used 5 ATI AIW cards. I very rarely if ever used matching
Catalyst and MMC releases.

ATI put the disclaimer there to cover their ass.

I have used, and am using mismatched version on 3 different computers using
3 different ATI AIW cards.
They all work and there are no issues *BECAUSE* I am using different
releases.

This is not a ****ing contest. I am stating that they will work with
different releases, verified by myself and countless others. You say the
website says not to do it. You choose to live your life to the letter of
the law according to the website. I choose to use the combination that
performs best for the particular machine I am using it on.

Hi Bobby,
Does the TVOD issue still exist? I thought they had inserted some option in
setup that corrected the issue. I've been having a few stability issues and
was just about to DL 9.14 & 6.5 for my AIW 1800xl, but really don't want the
perpetual TVOD. Have they corrected this 'feature', and if not, what is the
latest combo that allows the TVOD toggle?

Thanks,
Alex

Re: "They [the drivers and MMC] don't ALWAYS have to match."

No they do not, not always.

The driver is, well .... the driver.

MMC is mostly, basically, just an applications program (Like word or
excel), but it has low-level hooks into the driver.

It certainly is true that some newer versions of MMC won't work with
some older versions of the driver. But at the same time, different
versions of MMC will, in many cases, work with several versions of the
drivers (and in particular with newer versions of the driver). The
problem is you can only find out if an unmatched version of the driver
and MMC are compatible by testing, and even then you could miss an
incompatability on casual testing that might "bite you" at some later time.

But it's extreme to say absolutely that they always have to match,
period. That is the safest and most conservative approach to take, but
it's not always and absolutely necessary.

My Catalyst version says 6.4, and my MMC is 9.14. How doe I know if
this is a match or not? I can't find anything in the Information
Center of Catalyst that tells me this.
Thanks,
Ed

I am unsure as to what issue you are having with TVOD. I always disable
TVOD during the initialization and setup of MMC. I am running Cat. 6.2 (
The last package before ATI switched to the streaming model), and MMC 9.14.
Be aware that Ted may come screaming that this is impossible and that using
this combination may cause destruction on a global scale, but the
combination works very well.

If I may further impose, could you explain what the difference is between
6.2 and the 'streaming model'?
