After about 1 to 2 hours reading on Internet and help files on the
server I decided that my problem was:
Index server had been installed by default with W2000 server.
I didn't need it, I wasn't using it.
My best solution was to stop the Index server service and change the
startup type to Manual, then delete the catalogs, using the Index
Service management tool in the MMC.
I now have 4GB free instead of 400MB. That's a MASSIVE improvement!
I have no indexing service running but its there if I need it.
Life goes on!
