What do the smartshader effects do?
Which one should one have enabled on 9700 pro?

I tried it out last night and they seem pretty useless to me. Why would I
want my games to turn from green to blue and then red?

I think the ATI driver team were on something when they slipped that little
*feature* in ...?

They are all just for a bit of fun, it's not to gain better performance
or anything. Just give the a try.

Yeah! For simulated LSD trips, so you can get an idea what you in for when
you first try the stuff.

I heartily recommend the real thing. No video card has transcendental
shading!
