It must be simply either gorss incompetence, or gross abuse, leaves one with
an Adobe 9.0 reader aplication installed, that helps itself to implanting an
"updater" which cannot be removed with their so called "uninstall."

I'm about to format and reinstall XP Home on my 2nd PC, and I'll use a pdf
reader NOT produced by ADOBE, ....in fact NOTHING Adobe will be going back
into it !!

I remember I had that problem with that Adobe updater, and somehow I
got rid of it. It was sucking up way to much CPU time and giving me
nothing in return. I figured it out somehow and still have the reader
installed so it is possible to disable the updater.

If you Google for : remove adobe updater

You will find ideas from people with a similar dislike. Maybe I
applied one of them or just deleted the executable or something. I
don't feel like going through an uninstall and reinstall to figure it
out, but it is possible, at least on my XP Pro SP3 to keep just the
reader and not have the updater.

Here is one link with a recent date that seems to offer a logical way
to turn it off:

I'm just about certain all I had to do to get rid of it was tick a box
in one of the dialogs. I loaded 9 some time ago but it wasn't any big
deal to kill off the auto-update stuff request every time it came on. I
do however check and dl the applicable updates' there have been a couple
of usefull ones for security stuff.
