Are there any freeware cardgames playable over the local network?

Free. With option for pay membership for bells and whistles. I hang with
the Pinochle players. Some good players there. Other card games, too.
Been playing for a couple years or so.

I take it, this is played via an internet server. I couldn't find a direct
PC to PC LAN option (?)
