Is there a way to suppress the display of all those
empty card reader drives in explorer/my computer?
Any hint much appreciated. (XP Pro Sp2)

Unfortunately, not directly in XP but you can "add" this with the
following:

Take the cards out of the slots.

Take the cards out of the empty card readers?

To the OP: not under Windows XP. However, Vista does what you require.

A wise decision, believe me.

(Currently investigating *upgrading* my laptop from Vista to XP).
