If you set up the GMail acct to send your messages from that acct through
the GMail servers, you can save a copy to the Gmail Sent Items folder. So
they just consider it a waste of bandwidth. Now if you set up the GMail acct
to use a different Outgoing server, such as your ISP's, you should be able
to send a CC: or BCC: copy to yourself.
For those wondering why someone would want to send messages like this. If
you have outlook set to save all outgoing mail to the Sent Items folder, the
user would have to have to clear out this folder on a regular basis, of
emails that don't necessarily needed to be saved, such as the following:
1. Parent sending an email to their child to remember to do their homework
or chores when they get home from school.
2. Someone on a business trip, telling their spouse that they arrive at
their destination ( access to the internet & not a phone) safely, and will
be calling later from the hotel.
3. And so on.....
Also many individuals that have moved over from Outlook Express, as I have
done, picked up the habit of not having sent messages automatically placed
in the Sent Items folder. In OE you did not have an option in the Rules
Wizard to automatically send outgoing messages to user created folders as
you do with Outlook, only incoming messages. So you either need to manually
apply the rule to the message in your Sent Items folder. Or send the message
out with your address in the BCC: Line, so it would come "boomerang" back to
you, so a message rule could be applied to it automatically. And the Outlook
Express Default mail folders had/have the chance to get corrupted, and
messages could be lost from those folders.
