Hi,
First my clips look funny when I bring them down to the time line. The have
a large area of blank space after the video image. Second, it seems this
white space makes a beeping sound when played. This beeping remains in the
finished movies as well. I suspect this is due to the delay when starting
and stopping captures but I'm not sure.. I have a 1.5 GHz processor and
plenty of memory so I'm not sure why this is happening.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Maria

Maria,
You are in the generic video newsgroup, are you using Movie Maker?
If so,
Where have the clips come from?
A camcorder connected via firewire?
What format are you capturing in?
What file type are the clips?
How much memory? What you may clasify as plenty may not be enough.
Which operating system are you running?

Hello Again Graham,
I'm sure glad you're around. I will elaborate:

1. Palmcorder connected via firewire.
2. I'm using MovieMaker with Thinkpad XP and sp 2
3. 768 MB RAM
4. 1.5 gHZ processor
5. Because I ultimately want to burn to DVD, I'm capturing in DV AVI format
and not the format for use in Windows.
6. what file type are the clips..hmmm not sure, whatever WMM captures them
in when using option DV AVI.

I have a 3 port firewire card that I am inserting into my laptop because my
laptop does not have a firewire port. Am I asking too much trying to do
video editing on a laptop?

Thanks for the help Graham!

first test the capture using the lowest of capture settings available. This
will ensure that the firewire card is working. (Is this a pcmcia card). Such
as pocket pc.
Test a slightly better quality wmv setting.
If these both work then it sounds like the pc specs can't cope with the
amount of info coming in.
What size hard drive do you have?
How much free space?
Is the laptop new, I'll see if I can find out the rpm speed of the hdd,
unless you can find it in any literature you have on the laptop, in may be
4200, 5400, 7200rpm..

If you don't have any bedtime reading try this,
