The instructions for my HP 5650 printer say I can print
the screen by pressing the PrtScrn key and if that
doesn't work, go to Print Utilities and enable "capture
screen".

I can't figure how to get into Print Utilities to do
this.

PrnScn captures an image of the screen to the clipboard. You need to then
open a graphics program (even Paint will do) paste that image in to the
program and then print that image.
