How to capture the contents of a page

I would like to programatically surf to a website address, and capture its
contents (text contents). What are the possible ways to do this?

There is currently no way of being able to save the contents of a page
directly into a text file.
There are however programs out there that will save entire contents of web
sites to your harddrive for offline browsing later.
