I recently purchased a new emachine loaded with everything. I have figured out how to capture video from an analogue source (vcr) and it seems to work fine except that no sound plays. I would like to capture both audio and video. Please help, I am a beginner and will probably refer to things like "whatchamacallits".

What type of cables are you using to connect
your VCR to your PC's capture card?

It's a fairly common oversight, but many people
connect either a composite video or s-video
cable, and forget to connect the audio cables.

You have the cables. The yellow is for composite
video, and the red & white are for the two stereo
audio channels.

So the problem might be in your configuration.
Check out the Analog Video Capture pages at
www.papajohn.org for more information.

Hi there,

As Bob says you should be all set with what you have --
as long as your analog device has both Red and White
output connections.

Just as an fyi, in my case my analog device has only a
single channel (White) for audio output, so in order to
get audio to both channels I had to get mono-to-stereo
RCA "pigtail" cable, which is only about 6 inches long
with a single female connection at one end which feeds
that input signal to two male connections, such that you
just pick either the Red or White cable to use for the
audio feed (the other will be unused) and connect one end
to the analog device and the other to the female
connection of the mono-to-stereo pigtail, then connect
the Red and White ends of the pigtail to your capture
device.
