Here's a colourful little fella. He was about the size of a sparrow.

What a gorgeous little bird Niv - such lovely colours. With that very long beak, he is a bit like an "overgrown" hummingbird.

Nice pics, but wrong identification. The bird in question is an Orange-breasted Sunbird - an adult male. Found in the same region and habitat as the Cape Sugarbird but much smaller and brighter.

Blast it! I thought no-one would know the difference.

A month after I posted the pictures I realised I had the wrong name and, indeed, I changed the name to Orange Breasted Sunbird on my own pics once I'd definitely identified it. See below.



The pic was taken at Kirstenbosch.

Well, I thought after almost two years that I'd got away with it but there's always someone to come along and bite yer on the bum.
