When I try to save a file to my CDrw drive, I get the message that there is
no media in the drive. I have tried bot CD/RW and DVD+rw but no disc is
recognized,

What do you mean by "save a file to my CDrw drive"? Exactly how are
you trying to do this, and what software are you using?

If you can read files using existing media from your CD/RW drive, but no
longer can burn/save files to new CD media
then most likely the laser (there are two) used to burn a CD has failed and
the drive needs to be replaced.
