My problem is an unusual one. I have a Plextor 20/10/40-
12A CD burner. I know the burner is good becasue I have
removable drive bays with various operating systems on
them and I can burn with Win 2K as my OS but not in XP.
It did work at one time. I installed, and used
successfully, Roxio CD Creator v5.2. It recently stopped
working for unknown reasons. I then tried to install CD
Creator v6 and encountered many difficulties. Roxio came
up with a work-around for the installation. I had to
create a new user ID and give it admin priviledges for
the install to work, but I still could not burn CDs. I
also could not use the XP built in capability to burn
CDs. I removed CDC v6, and then, with Roxio's guidance,
ran a special program to remove all vestiges of v5.2. I
then stripped the registry of al references to any
Adaptec or Roxio products. I still cannot burn using the
XP built in capability and cannot figure out why.

I have turned off all items in startup via MS config. No
luck. I have tried disabling all devices that were not
absolutely necessary. No luck. I have booted into safe
mode to see if anything extra showed. Nothing there. I
removed the existing burner, once in safe mode, and later
in normal boot mode. XP finds it again and installs it
but I still cannot burn.

Suggestions, anyone? I am at the point of doing a rebuild.

Thanks,

At the risk of sounding OTT, may suggest you dump Roxio
and load Nero?

Why dump Roxio? It works exceedingly well for the majority of people who
own it.
Besides, he already has Roxio, why should he throw away perfectly good money
on another piece of software that isn't any better (or worse) than EZCD 6.
I have both installed on my computer; they are both good programs, but each
has it's weak points. For the casual user, Roxio is the better choice.
